Tuscany

Florence

Tuscany is a region in central Italy.  It is made up of ten provinces:  Florence, Arezzo, Grosseto, Livorno, Lucca, Massa Carrara, Pisa, Pistoia, Prato and Siena.  Tuscany is known for its landscapes, art, and history.

Our first exploration of Tuscany is Florence. It is the birthplace of the Italian Renaissance. In Italian, Florence is pronounced Firenze, fee·rent·say.

I visited Florence for the first time and it left an indelible mark on my view of the world.  I can remember walking the streets in the city center simply amazed at the architecture and history surrounding me.  I was teaching at the time and visited many of the 72 museums including the Galleria dell’Accademia.  It is the home of Michelangelo’s David. The food in Florence is unforgettable. I can still remember the taste of the artichoke appetizer, “carciofi ritti”

The main flavors come from garlic, herbs, and pancetta with a citrus finish! Simply delicious! If you are ready to taste traditional, seasonal food from Florence please see the menu!
